Wachter-Wiesler wine producer

Wachter-Wiesler is a family-owned winery formed by the marriage of two winemaking families from the village of Deutsch-Schützen, heart of the Eisenberg wine region. Gerda Wachter married Josef Wiesler, so when in 1999 Josef chose to pursue a career outside the family business it seemed natural that he should lease his vineyards to his brother-in-law Franz Wachter, forming Wachter-Wiesler.
Franz's son Christophe is now the winemaker, having graduated from the renowned Klosterneuberg Institute of Viticulture in 2008. Since then he has been taking over, step by step, the responsibilities of running the wine estate. He believes in minimal intervention to let the wines speak of their terroir, and has been converting the vineyards to organic cultivation.
As well as a range of Blaufränkisch wines under the Eisenberg DAC, Wachter-Wiesler also produce white Welschriesling and Weissburgunder, red Zweigelt, and, more recently, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
