Tenuta Fujanera wine producer
This estate lies a few kilometres southeast of the city of Foggia in the middle of the Tavoliere delle Puglie plain which occupies much of the north of Puglia. It was founded in the 18th century, at a time when wine production in the region was booming. Indeed, the farmhouse at the centre of its eight hectares of vineyards and olive groves is rather dwarfed by the original 8-metre-deep winery underneath it.
However, the arrival of Phylloxera at the end of the 19th century devastated the local wine industry, and the winery lay derelict for many years. Recently it was bought and restored by current owner Lorenzo Albano, who crafts a range of wines from traditional local varieties like Nero di Troia, Negroamaro and the white Falanghina.
