Not just unoaked, but organic, wild-yeast-fermented, aged in plastic eggs, and including white grapes in the blend: this is not your regular Rioja.
Maverick winemaker Germán Blanco of Quinta Milú in Ribera del Duero and his friend, noted oenologist Javier Colio, have rented a cellar in an unfashionable part of Rioja to produce a very different style of wine for the region: fresh, lively and fruit-forward, with minimal intervention in both vineyard and winery.
This is their first vintage, but with its floral, damson-scented nose and delightful (even dangerous!) drinkability, we’re sure it won’t be the last.

Serve this fresh yet soft-edged unoaked red just a little cooler than room temperature: around 16°C.  Give the pouch no more than one minute in the fridge.
Fruit-forward and practically tannin-free, this is great for drinking on its own.  Its fresh acidity means it also pairs well with starters and lighter dishes.  Try it with tapas, and not just the meaty ones – this is one of those rare reds that will also work with fish.
