Rondinella wine grape

The classic blend for Valpolicella in all its forms, including Amarone, Recioto and Ripasso is Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. All three varieties are native to the Veneto: the region of northeast Italy around Venice and Verona that is home to Valpolicella.
Rondinella is a fairly neutral variety, but does bring good colour and simple cherry fruit to the blend. Growers like it for its high yields, excellent disease resistance and ability to cope well with heavy clay soils and less favoured sites. Its thick skins are low in tannins, but, like Corvina, make it perfect for drying to produce Recioto and Amarone.
