Morate wine grape

This is a really obscure Spanish black grape: so much so that we can’t find a picture of it!  Morate is not very highly regarded and isn’t authorised for use in most Spanish DOs, including its probable homeland of Rioja.
A large-berried variety that ripens late, it produces light-bodied wines with high acidity and low alcohol levels (always below 13%).  This can make it a useful blending partner, given that Spanish reds generally tend towards low acidity and high alcohol.
