Quinta do Feital, Auratus

A trip down memory lane for our expert

This Portuguese white stirs lots of vivid memories for our expert. Certainly they are very underrated and we hope this example will change your mind.

To pair, either go Portuguese with a fish dish, or try it with tapas - or for the very adventurous, see if you can create some of the Portuguese version of tapas, Petisco.

Put the pouch in the fridge when it first arrives. Serve moderately well-chilled - about 9°C or 10°C

The dryness and salty minerality make this wine very food-friendly. It would be just perfect with the grilled fish and seafood stews of its homeland, but this is a characterful white that could cope with a wide variety of foods. Perhaps even literally - tapas would work very well.

And tapas can be as minimal as you like: olives and salted almonds would complement this beautifully, with the latter echoing the flavours in the wine. Then close your eyes and imagine you’re high on a sunny terrace overlooking Lisbon bay...
